It’s important to choose a production team that will fit your digital marketing needs. But if you don’t have much experience creating videos–how are you supposed to know what to ask them?
Don't worry, we've got you covered. Here are the best questions to ask a potential production team:
1.) How much experience do they have?
When you choose a production company, they should understand and align with your brand. You want the best to represent you–so you should choose the best. Ask them: how long have they made movies? Who are their clients? What film styles do they specialize in?
Myers Media has been in the industry since 2010. We shoot product and service commercials, explanatory videos, corporate videos, and live-action. We also specialize in product photography and drone footage.
2.) What is their reputation?
You trust them with your brand image–so they should have a good image in the community too. Check out their Google reviews, Better Business Bureau standings, and social media profile to see what their clients think.
Myers Media shares customer testimonials right on our website–and we have a high Google rating too.
3.) What services do they offer?
Can the production company you’re interested in provide everything you envision? Ask them about scriptwriting and talent (actors, voice overs, animators, etc) that will make your video stand out.
Myers Media works alongside creative teams, like writers and animators to ensure each project shines.
4.) How do they vibe with you?
This isn’t so much a question to ask the company, but yourself. Personality is everything in this industry. You don’t want to work with some stuffy team that make production days a drag. When speaking with them, do you like how they answer your questions? Are they friendly and professional? Check out their online portfolio–what is the overall feel of their content?
At Myers Media, our goal is to produce videos that exceed our client’s vision–and we try to have a good time in the process. Because it just makes for better, more authentic content when we make the set a pleasant environment.
5.) Where are they located?
Do you prefer to work with a company that is local, national, or international?
Ask them about time zones. Can they communicate via phone or video chat during convenient office hours for you?
Myers Media is based in Phoenix, Arizona. We all speak fluent English. While we are located in the Valley of the Sun, we are also available for travel–and have been all over the world shooting content.
6.) What kind of equipment do they use?
You want to ask if they have access to professional DSLRs. What do they use for lighting? How about sound mixing equipment? Quality photo/video equipment normally leads to better quality footage.
We won't bore you with the details. Just know that at Myers Media we are HUGE equipment nerds–constantly upgrading ours in keeping with the most up-to-date technologies. If you want to talk about it with us--we'd be happy to talk your ear off about equipment!
7.) Do they go above and beyond when editing? And what is their distribution like?
You want a team that thinks about your brand as they edit. Ask what type of editing will be done on your video project before signing a contract. Once you have a finished product to share, you want to share it! Ask them their distribution strategy to get your work into the world.
Myers Media has extensive experience in custom editing for each brand we work with–it’s why we have so many return clients!
8.) Have they ever done projects similar to yours?
Has this videography team done projects similar to yours before? Will they be able to utilize special effects when necessary? If their experience matches what you are looking for, ask how many of those types of projects they've completed and their turnaround time.
9.) Is their work entertaining to you?
Again, not a direct question for them, but when looking at a production firm's work, consider: "Is this entertaining to me?" You should certainly respond with a confident yes.
10.) Can they work with your budget?
Video production companies with prior knowledge will have a very confident idea of the financial investment you’ll need to accomplish your project.
I believe in finding my clients the most cost-effective options because, hey, I’m a business owner too and I get it–you want the most out of your video marketing budget.
The good news? The money you spend on video marketing will pay off. (Check out our post "Statistics speak for themselves...videos matter" to find all the statistics behind why video matters!)
At Myers Media, we work with our clients to make sure their content is seen and enjoyed by their target audience. It’s our whole goal–start to finish! Why create a great video if it'll never be seen?
Conclusion
It’s daunting to pick a media production team–but we believe these questions will help you find the right one!
